      As can be seen at CWD-2768 Crowd 3.3.0 supports LDAP connections using StartTLS.

      Jira 8.1 (currently latest) embeds Crowd 2.10.5 libraries:

      The embedded Crowd libraries must be updated in Jira so as to allow LDAP connections using StartTLS.
