Starting in JIRA 7.3 we appear to have added this option in the external directory connector options: "Update group memberships when logging in"
Examples from the screens to add Crowd or LDAP directories below:
However Connection to an LDAP Directory and Connecting to Crowd or another JIRA application for user management do not appear to have documentation around this.
Please provide updates to explain this setting as when not used properly could lead to serious performance issues in Jira when using "Connector" LDAP type.

By ticking this option in an LDAP connection I thought that even if the user had been removed from jira-users group (or whatever the name is for the group that gives application access to Jira), they would automatically be re-added whenever they try to login again, however this is not the case.
It does say it will only be done once in the Default Group Membership option but then I find this other option "Update group memberships when logging in" makes no sense. When are groups updated?
