Summary

Most custom field options have a limit of 255 characters (ie. Check box). It should not be possible to add an option which exceeds 255 characters but in some cases, it successfully gets added. The custom field will then behave erratically. For example, sometimes the text will be truncated (giving false impression that JIRA is deleting data) or the text is reverted to the previous option (another false impression)

Steps to Reproduce

1. Create a check box Custom Field
2. Add an option
   • In this page, it is not possible to exceed 255 characters
3. Finish the creation of the custom field
4. In the Custom Field page, configure the custom field and click on Edit Options
5. Edit the option
6. This time, exceed 255 characters and click Update
7. You will be redirected to a 500 error page due to exceeding 255 characters. Hit the browser Back button and then click on the Cancel button next

Expected Results

1. The custom field option didn't get updated

Actual Results

The custom field option is updated to a new value which exceeds 255 characters

Workaround

No known workarounds. Ensure that all options do not exceed 255 characters
