An ability to move subtask from one issue to another is apparently required in large project.

            [JRASERVER-5272] Change Sub-task's parent

To answer my own question, the JIRA "Move" issue function normally moves issues between projects, but if you use it on a Sub-task issue type then it re-parents the sub-task to a new parent issue. That's not intuitive, and I would recommend creating a new item under "More Actions" like "Reparent sub-task" to make this clearer.

Nick or anyone from Atlassian, can you provide any information on how this was resolved or how the solution works? There is no fix version on this issue and the linked forum posts just say "we haven't implemented this yet." Perhaps you could repost the non-sensitive information from JRA-7944?

Unfortunately I appended by mistake a '_' character to the URL – this leads to a dead link

And because of JRA-1100, I'm not able to correct all posts with the wrong URL

Please review using the corrected link: http://forums.atlassian.com/thread.jspa?threadID=9146

            Andreas,

Yeah sorry mate. The issue has some private data on there so the issue is private.
You can test out this by creating an issue and a sub-task in the Test project and moving the sub-task.

            Cheers,
            Nick

            Nick,
thanks for your hint. I just cannot see the link nor can I view JRA-7944: It comes up with the error message "PERMISSION VIOLATION": It seems that you have tried to perform an operation which you are not permitted to perform.

I thought, the bug was already fixed... Is it some private issue?

I think that re-arranging sub-issues should be implemented very soon. This way, you could not only track your issues but also reorganize them as you see fit. The management of medium projects would be much easier.
Ahmads idea should be taken under serious consideration as it collecs some single ideas to a whole. Maybe you could open a general issue and regroup those issues under it?

            Cheers, Andreas
