      Problem Definition

At the moment, Jira doesn't support merged cells in issue comments/issue descriptions. Hence when a table with merged cells is copied from confluence, it will break in Jira's comment or issue description field.

      This capture comes from Confluence.

This is how it's being rendered in Jira

      Suggested Solution

It'll be great for Jira to support merged cells.

            Hi guys.

On an INBOUND eMailed ticket with a Table in the eMail description, if there are Merged Cells, the Description field of Jira does not recognize the merged cells, and then shifts all other data in the table to the LEFT by 1 column.

This is particularly problematic for clients/customers that eMail us with tables in their eMail requests alot.

            Here's the original eMail's Table:

This seems like a pretty basic function.
I'm disappointed DC doesn't have this yet.

Wow, this request is almost 10 years old! I see that the Confluence product has the ability to merge cells. Why is that module not inherited by the editor in Jira? Is there no communication between the two software groups?
