This is probably one of the bigger thorns in my side with administration of JIRA.

I have multiple business units using JIRA for various initiatives. About 3 of those initiatives currently use jira utilize multiple projects to represent the various business units that the initiative encompasses (setup in this way for more flexibility on user permissions).

When I have to add a global custom field so that it will show up for each of the business unit projects for a particular initiative, I have to go to the other initiatives Field Schemes and hide this field so it does not show up in those particular projects.

I would like a way to globally set (for all defined field layout schema) a particular field to be either hidden, or shown.
It would probably make most sense to place this on the Issue Fields (System) page in Admin.

The lack of this feature severly limits the amount individual Field Schemes I would want to allow to be created for future projects.
