we need the ability to do up-front assignments for the BA, Developer, and QA person assigned to an issue. obviously this would be a custom field, and we could use a text field except we need to search against it and report, etc.

the "current assignment" would stay as-is, but we'd use workflow to automatically assign to the appropriate person from the custom fields when the status changes.
