@ Mentions does not autocomplete on the work description field of the Log Work dialog.

In all fields, below which one could find preview and Get local help about wiki makrup help icons, writing "@a" results in opening a list of users with names, logins or e-mail addresses starting with the "a" letter and the chosen match is replaced with username. This doesn't occur in Log work window Work description field. I supposed this should work the same way across the system.
