Mentions are not displayed correctly when using email adresses as usernames

      e.g.
      Username is: user@example.com
      Display Name is: Example User

      when I mention the user I would expect to see "Example User" as a link to his profile.

      What actually happens is, that the following is displayed:

      [~user@example.com]

      which generates a mailto link instead of a link to the users profile.
