NOTE: This bug report is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

Java applet while attaching screenshots hangs on OS X 10.8.2 (64 bit) when pasting the image from clipboard, taken by ctrl-shift-apple-4 while using Safari 6.0.2.

http://javatester.org/version.html reports that the bundled Java version with OS X is 1.6.0_34

Thanks for the offer Kelly. The best solution I've found so far is the Attach Image for JIRA add-on from Atlassian Labs. However, it isn't offered for OnDemand customers.

Also, support is not uniform among modern Mac browsers:

            • Firefox 21.0: Doesn't work with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V
            • Safari 6.0.4: Doesn't work with Ctrl+V. DOES WORK with Cmd+V.
            • Chrome 26.0: Doesn't work with Ctrl+V. DOES WORK with Cmd+V

It figures that I use Firefox as my primary browser!

            Larry,

            While not elegant, I actually:
Enter a comment on the issue usually typing what I would have put in the comment while attaching the screen shot, which automatically generates an email
Copy the screen shot to my Mac's memory
            Reply to the generated email
Paste only the image / screenshot into the email
            Send the reply email

The image seems to attach just fine, although I lose the ability to name it something. I am running Mac OS X 10.8.3 and Java 1.7.0_17

I should note that we are an On Demand customer & use the default notification schemes.

I'll be glad to schedule a session where I demo the workaround. Please let me know if you would like me to do so. I am executing most of my company's semi-annual audit controls this evening. So I will be taking full advantage of the work around.

            Regards,
            Kelly

This is still a problem with JIRA 6.0, Mac OS X 10.8.3 and Java 1.7.0_21.

Does anyone have a fix or a work-around for this problem (other than saving the capture to disk and then attaching it)?

I can replicate this issue on both firefox and safari. When is this going to get fixed? If you provide me with instructions, I will be glad to tell what version of Java I am running. As best I can tell I have OS X 10.8.3. I have Firefox 19.0.2. I have Safari 6.0.3

Is there a browser with which this will work?

Saving graphics to Jpegs is painful. The ability to attach screen shots was one of the primary reasons Jira OnDemand was selected as our tool.

This issue appears to be out here since November 29. I would have thought Project Kickass would have addressed this issue. Instead it broke my workaround of emailing the screen shots to the issue.

I can replicate this issue with the latest version of Java (7 update 11) using Firefox v18.0 on Mac OS X 10.8.2.

I can also consistently reproduce this problem on Mac OS X 10.8.2 with JIRA 5.2 and Java 1.7.0_09.

I would be glad to help test any fix as I use this feature a lot.

I've reopened this ticket because I can reproduce the issue on this very ticket, (which is currently running JIRA v5.2.1#813), with the following components:

            OS X 10.7.4
            Safari 6.0 (7536.26.14)
            Java version "1.6.0_37"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_37-b06-434-11M3909)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.12-b01-434, mixed mode)

The reason the ticket was originally transferred to support is because it wasn't reproducible in Java version 1.6.0_33, which points to this problem only occurring with the later Java versions that are bundled with OS X. However, the issue does not occur on OS X 10.6.8 and Safari v5.1.7 (6534.57.2) even though the JVM is also v1.6.0_37
