      Atlassian Update – 7 July 2021

      Hi everyone,
Thank you all for the votes and comments on this suggested feature.

We would like to inform you that we are introducing the ability to add reactions to comments as a feature starting in Jira Data Center 8.18.

You can add reactions to Jira comments on all views such as View issue, Comments or All tab in the Issue Navigator, and Issue details pane on Boards and Backlogs (except for the JSM projects).

The functionality is turned on by default, however, admins can switch it off in the admin panel. You can learn more about the feature from Preparing for Jira 8.18 and Jira Software 8.18.x release notes.

      Thank you,
      Jira Data Center Team

NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

While the fabulously rich conversational thread features of Atlassian Answers applied to JIRA would be awesome, my team would be satisfied with just having the ability to "like," "+1," or "me too" comments on a JIRA issue. The value in this is that it enables users to voice solidarity without requiring comments that do not provide additional value. This focuses the conversation thread on high-value commentary and reduces the noise of low-value notifications (I agree, thank-you, me too, woo-hoo!) in your inbox.

This is very sad.. you already have this feature ready, in DC, and you do not provide it to Server.. moreover: "As of February 2, 2022 PT, we will only provide security bug fixes for critical vulnerabilities until the end of support.".. We are not after February 2, 2022 right now.. thumbs down..

9df7c7dd5f52 - Jira Cloud already supports emoji responses to comments.

Unfortunately Server versions of Jira will only get security fixes up to a certain point. See "no new feature development" at https://www.atlassian.com/migration/assess/journey-to-cloud

            Hello Attlassian,

you wrote Datacenter supports this feature. Great!

But what about Server and Cloud versions?
Could you provide us with a roadmap when this feature will be incorporated there?

            Hi Atlassian,

this truly is a pure Datacenter only function. I'm pretty sure, that all Datacenter customers were eagerly waiting for a function to add reactions below a comment.

TBH, fixing this 9 year old feature request for DataCenter only, truly shows what Atlassian is heading for: They want a subscription model for their on-premise licenses & don't care about their customers anymore. The whole talk about "Moving to Cloud" is just a motion to cover up, that the former server licensing model didn't return enough revenue on the long run. Sadly, nobody of the management level has the b&%$s to commit this to us, the customer. I've been an active member & Atlassian community leader since 2015, but the last year & especially the handling of issues like this, really doesn't want me to support this company any longer in my spare time.
I wonder, if this comment gets deleted for being not exactly on topic. If so, so much for an "open" company.

            Best

            Datacenter, not Server.
And as Server is discontinued, we will never see this function.

Well, glad we waited 9 years for that.
