Sometimes users end up on the participants list by accident. Particularly admin stepping into issues to assist with workflow or answer questions about how to do something. Our notification scheme includes Participants so the helpful admin will start to receive update emails regarding the resolution of the issue (he might now care about this)

The ability and permission to remove yourself or another user from the participants list would be very helpful.
