This would be particularly useful for hosted customers, who don't have system access to their JIRA instance, so currently they have to raise a support request to get it done, so it would take a load off hosted support. Additionally, it would allow custom icons to be persisted between upgrades, images uploaded to the icons directory in JIRA (the current recommended way to include custom images) need to be manually migrated between upgrades.

Despite Atlassian's comment about not being on the roadmap, at some point along the way, this upload functionality was added for issue type icons, though it is still missing for custom priority icons. See screenshot.

A "No priority" icon is one of the ones I was looking for, so that issues can be prioritized later.
Also a "Normal", "average", "work task", something between "Major" and "Minor" so that bug priority can be above or below the line of all of the development tasks.

Actually, data URIs seem to work! When entering them, it gives a 500 Server error, but it is actually accepted and correctly displayed. Funny

It would already help if we could enter data URIs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_URI_scheme) instead of external http:// addresses. I imagine that this would be rather easy to implement.

Would love to have a 'No Priority' icon, set as default so issues can be prioritized later.

Yes, when will be this resolved?

I would also like to change the priority icons. When will this be resolved?
