Using the new Jira 4.1 build on my own internal install as well as the Jira v4.1#519 on the atlassian support request site I am unable to use the backspace or the delete keys while using Google Chrome on OSX. Could this have something to do with the autodetect for key bindings combined with the new customizable key bindings. As a regression this problem was/is not current on my current local Jira 4.0 version.
