Need Report based on two dimension filter stats (with proper Excel view)

The two dimension filter stats is a very useful portlet, but its results cannot always be exported to Excel neatly: in case of using e.g. Status as axis criteria, the displayed icons are replaced with their replacement text by Excel, resulting in doubling the status name in the Excel field.

Would it be possible to create a report plugin with the same logic as the portlet, and an Excel view?
