Using the "attach screenshot" applet crashes Firefox and Internet Explorer

If I click on the "Attach screenshot" link in the left navigation panel for a ticket, it crashes both IE (6) and Firefox.

I get no message from Firefox, but from IE in get an Application error box (see attachment)

I uninstalled 1.6 and installed 1.4 and it seems to be working fine now.

            Hi Chris,

It seems to be the Java Platform SE 6 U17 plug-in that is causing the problem.... but I think this is the latest version.

The version of the Java plug-in is 1.6.0_17

            Hi Scott,

Would you mind finding out what version of Java you have installed on your machine? Java Applets actually execute within the browser inside the Java plugin. If there is a problem in the Java plugin, it would explain this behaviour.

If the browser crashes when you do this, there must be a bug outside the Applet. Applets are not supposed to be able to crash their container, no matter what they do.

On windows, just go to the control panel and there should be a Java control panel item. On the "General" tab, click the "About" button. It's also possible to have multiple versions of Java installed (which is visible under "Add or Remove Programs").

I've just tested the screenshot applet on Firefox and IE6 on Windows XP and it works on both of those for me. I'm using Java version 6 update 7 on that machine. I recommend updating Java to the latest version if you can.
