If we use the 'due date' field, I can imagine someone (management types) wanting to view a report on 'late' issues. JIRA currently has an 'outstanding' report but this only filters on the 'unresolved' status. How about a preset that filters 'unresolved' issues that are also 'late' (as determined by the due date field, of course).

Or....

I tried to implement this as a saved filter, by searching for issues that were still open and due after 'today'. But that saves today's date in the filter, not the "concept" of 'today' (if ya know what i mean).

Enhancing the filtering screen to allow a hard-coded date, as well as ideas like "last week" or "today" might solve this.
