Comment moderation by Project Lead for users' customer visible issues

    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

We would like to ability for a project lead to moderate comments entered by users in a customer visible issue/project. We are investigating the possibility of letting our customers into the system and the main concern is that some grad would blab his mouth off about something about which we would really rather the customer was not aware. Having some ability for the project lead to moderate all potentially customer visible comments would go a long way to convincing the powers that be in my company that JIRA is a feasible platform for customer visible issue tracking.

All that aside - keep up the good work! Great product.

Dave, glad I could help. At the Toronto Users group I presented my use case for integrating JIRA as a support helpdesk. Although there is no narration, you can look at the PPT here (Tools/Attachments). It may give you some ideas.

            Thanks Neal!

To avoid accidentally posting comments to the customer, we have used a Javascript workaround, as explained here, that sets the default comment visibility to an internal group, so in order to make it visible to clients, one has to explicitly over-ride the default.

            Hi Dave,

We do not have plans to build this functionality into JIRA at the moment. We have a lot of feature requests and are trying to work our way through them. Due to this we will not be able to get around to this one.

Please note that it is already possible to restrict visibility of comments to a Project Role or a group. So the graduate can post comments that are only visible to internal staff, which are later made public by more senior stuff. You can use the Recent Comments Rss feed to find the latest comments added to JIRA.

At the moment, comments are visible by default when posted, so the graduate will need to manually set the restriction. Please vote for JRA-9091 if you would like this changed.

For more information on the way new feature and improvement requests are scheduled, please see:

Thank you for your kind words! We are glad you are enjoying using JIRA.

            Cheers,
            Anton
