Description
NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.
If one needs to be able to restart each individual JIRA webapp without affecting any other webapp (JIRA or any other webapp), a single JIRA webapp should be configured per JVM (and therefore per Tomcat instance).
If restarting multiple webapps at the same time is not an issue, then running multiple webapps in the same Tomcat (and therefore JVM) instance is fine.
We should mention these points in the requirements section of JIRA documentation.
The reloading of webapps in Tomcat is very tricky to get working and does not work with JIRA, leading to OutOfMemoryErrors after a few reloads - JRA-15489.
