One of our users, username "Minuteelectron", accidentally changed the project lead of his project to "MinuteElectron" (note the case difference). This user doesn't exist. After this, he was unable to perform any actions he should have been as the project lead. However, when clicking on the 'project lead' username link, I was taken to the user's profile page. It seems that JIRA can't decide whether "Minuteelectron" and "MinuteElectron" are the same user.

      Either:

      • The user should still have access as the project lead, or
      • Visiting the profile page of a non-existent user should return an error

(I think the second option would be more correct, since usernames seem to be mostly treated as case-sensitive.)

Also, it seems dubious that JIRA allowed the project lead to be changed to a non-existent user in the first place.

I've attached a screenshot showing the inconsistency on the profile page; note the difference between the username on the page, and the username in the browser URL bar.

If it makes any difference, we use Crowd (1.4) for JIRA's authentication.
