Issue Summary

Provide Jira Cloud administrators with an option to display eligible fields, such as user-picker and date fields, in the right-hand context/details panel regardless of which screen tab contains them.

 

In Jira Data Center, eligible fields configured on screen tabs can appear in the right-hand details area of the issue view. In Jira Cloud, fields on the first/default tab are shown directly on the work item, while fields on later tabs appear in the description area under their corresponding custom tab.

This difference can cause confusion after a Data Center-to-Cloud migration. If an administrator adds or reorders a tab so that an existing field tab is no longer first, fields that users expect in the right-hand details panel move into a custom tab lower on the work item. Users may interpret the change as missing data because the fields are no longer visible in their familiar location.

Steps to Reproduce

1. A Jira Data Center screen contains a tab named Field tab with user-picker and date fields.
2. In one migrated Cloud site, Field tab is first, so these fields appear in the right-hand details panel.
3. Before a later migration, an administrator adds a Release tab before Field tab.
4. In the later Cloud site, Field tab is second, so the same fields appear in the custom-tab area near the description instead of in the right-hand panel.
5. The values migrated successfully, but users report the fields as missing because their placement changed.

Current Behavior

• Fields on the first/default screen tab display directly on the work item.
• Fields on subsequent tabs display in the description-area custom tabs.
• Field placement therefore changes when screen tab order changes.

Suggestion

Allow administrators to preserve or explicitly configure right-hand details-panel placement independently of screen tab order.

Possible implementations could include:

• a screen or field setting that controls whether an eligible field appears in the right-hand details panel
• an option to preserve Data Center-style placement during migration; or
• a layout setting that separates field location from tab order.
