Customers using Atlassian Teams currently lack the ability to hide or disable specific default team types (specifically the "Official team" type) from the team creation UI. Even when an organization decides to move away from using "Official teams," the option remains visible to Org admins.
Additionally, there is no current way to set a specific team type (like the standard "Team" type) as the default selection to minimize administrative overhead.
Current State
- Visibility: Both "Team" and "Official team" types are visible by default in the team creation flow.
- Deletion Restrictions: The "Delete" option for the default "Official team" type is greyed out because the system requires at least one admin-managed type to exist at all times.
- Default Selection: There is no administrative setting to define which team type should be selected by default when a user or admin starts the creation process.
Expected State
- Toggle Visibility: Organization Admins should have a toggle in the Team types settings to hide specific team types from the creation menu without necessarily deleting the underlying type definition.
- Configurable Defaults: Admins should be able to designate a "Default" team type so that the most commonly used option is pre-selected for users.
- Flexible Deletion: If an organization chooses not to use admin-managed teams, they should have the option to disable that requirement or easily swap the default "Official team" for a custom type that can then be hidden.
