Current behavior:
When a Jira issue URL is posted in Slack, the Jira Cloud for Slack integration now displays the link as [Work type icon] [Summary] (e.g. 🟢 Fix login bug). The issue key is no longer visible in the link text.
Previous behavior:
Jira issue links in Slack previously displayed as [Issue key] [Summary] (e.g. PROJECT-123 Fix login bug), making the key immediately visible without needing to expand the unfurl or hover over the link.
Customer impact:
- Teams that reference issues by key (e.g. "Let's discuss PROJECT-123 in standup") lose the at-a-glance association between the link and the issue key
- In channels with high issue volume, distinguishing between links becomes harder when only summaries are shown — summaries can be long, similar, or truncated
- Copy-pasting the link text no longer gives users the issue key, adding extra steps to their workflow
Customer request:
Provide an option to configure the Jira link display format in Slack, allowing users to choose between:
- [Work type icon] [Summary] (current default)
- [Issue key] [Summary] (previous format)
- [Issue key] only
This could be exposed as a workspace-level or channel-level setting within the Jira Cloud for Slack app configuration.
