Allow automated/programmatic triggering of Slack thread sync with Jira work items

XMLWordPrintable

      Problem Statement

The current "Sync with thread" feature for syncing Slack threads with Jira work items requires a manual button click on the Jira link unfurl in Slack. There is no API, Jira Automation action, or webhook available to trigger this sync programmatically. This limits adoption for teams with high-volume workflows who need consistent, hands-free syncing.

      Requested Capabilities

      1. Rule-based auto-sync (Channel + Project mapping)
When a Slack message containing a Jira issue link is posted in a specific channel, and the issue belongs to a designated project, the thread sync should activate automatically — without requiring a manual click.

Example: Any message in #engineering-support that references a PROJ-xxx issue should automatically sync that Slack thread with the Jira issue's comments.

      2. Conditional/event-driven sync activation
Allow thread sync to be triggered based on Jira issue events or status transitions — for example, only activate sync after a ticket reaches "Approved" status.

Example: A work item is posted in Slack, but the thread sync only activates after the issue transitions to "Approved" in Jira.

      Impact

This would significantly reduce manual effort for support, engineering, and operations teams who rely on Slack for real-time collaboration but need Jira as the system of record. Automated sync ensures no context is lost and reduces the risk of human error .
