Currently, Jira Cloud users can manage their email volume by unchecking specific roles (for example, "You're the reporter") in their personal settings. However, the "Notifications for relevant work items" feature uses a broader algorithm that continues to send updates for issues a user originally created, even if they are no longer the reporter, assignee, or a watcher.
There is no toggle to specifically exclude items where the user was the original creator but has since handed off the issue.
For long-term users or administrators who have created hundreds of items, the "Relevant Work" filter creates significant email noise that can't be disabled without turning off all relevant notifications—which users still need for their current active work.
Users expect that unchecking "You're the reporter" should stop notifications for items they reported, but the "Relevant" logic overrides this preference based on historical activity.
Proposed Solution (Next Steps):
- New Toggle: Add a specific setting under Personal Settings > Email Notifications to "Exclude items I originally created" from the Relevant Work filter.
- Logic Refinement: Update the "Relevant Work" algorithm to respect the "Reporter" checkbox more strictly, or provide a way to "Mute" historical relevance for specific issues.
- Impact: This will allow power users and admins to maintain a clean inbox while still receiving updates on work that is truly relevant to their current role.
