Summary
Add support for Speech Recognition, Visual Help, and Text Help in Jira Cloud to improve accessibility and provide closer parity with Jira Data Center.
Actual Results
Jira Cloud currently does not include the following accessibility features that are available in Jira Data Center:
- Speech recognition – Support for interacting with Jira using voice input (for example, dictation and command support for users with motor impairments).
- Visual help – Visual aids or enhancements that support users with low vision or cognitive disabilities.
- Text help – Reading or text-support features that assist users with visual or learning disabilities.
Because these features are not available in Jira Cloud, users who rely on them must depend only on operating system or browser tools, which may not integrate well with Jira Cloud workflows. Teams moving from Jira Data Center to Jira Cloud also experience a reduction in built-in accessibility support and guidance.
Expected Results
Jira Cloud provides built-in accessibility assistance features, including:
- Speech recognition support – Controls and interactions that work reliably with voice input and command-based interaction.
- Visual help – Additional visual cues or guidance to support users with low vision or cognitive differences.
- Text help – Reading or text-support assistance to help users with visual or learning disabilities consume and act on content.
This would give users who rely on these features in Jira Data Center equivalent or better support in Jira Cloud, avoid regressions during migration, and strengthen Jira Cloud’s support for a wider range of assistive technologies.
Additional Context
Users with motor impairments often rely on speech recognition to navigate and operate complex interfaces. Users with low vision, cognitive, or learning disabilities benefit from extra visual guidance and text support beyond standard UI controls. Providing these options directly in Jira Cloud would help them work more independently and reduce reliance on external workarounds.
Organizations that use both Jira Data Center and Jira Cloud, or are migrating from Data Center to Cloud, expect a consistent level of accessibility support across both platforms. Adding these capabilities to Jira Cloud would:
- Improve usability for users who depend on assistive technologies
- Help teams meet their accessibility requirements
- Reduce friction and support effort during migrations
