Many customers use a single Jira project for a product or service over many years and accumulate a large number of releases. They need to preserve historical data for:
- Audits and compliance
- Long‑term reporting and analytics
At the same time, they must keep their active project manageable and performant, and avoid hitting project‑level limits on releases.
There is no clean way to “retire” older releases from an active project while retaining full history.
Provide a built‑in way to bulk move releases (version) and all issues related to that release to another project. Providing this as both a UI action and via REST API / Automation (e.g. “move releases older than 2 years to project XYZ”) would let teams implement long‑term archiving strategies
