Summary
Admins can configure name, description, permissions, and credentials for service accounts, but not a custom avatar/icon. This makes it harder for users to recognize related bots/integrations across tools (e.g., Slack + Jira). Adding avatar support for service accounts would improve clarity and trust in automation-heavy workflows.

Current limitation
Service accounts:
- Support: create/delete, edit name/description, manage permissions and tokens
- Do not support: uploading or setting a custom avatar (no UI or API)
Customer example:
They have a Slackbot with a specific icon and a Jira service account that posts into the same Slack thread. Because the Jira service account can’t share that icon, users can’t easily see that both “users” are the same bot/integration.
Suggestion
- Add an option in Atlassian Administration → Directory → Service accounts → [account] to upload/change an avatar, similar to regular users or project icons.
- (Nice to have) Provide an API to set/update a service account avatar so it can be synced with external tools (e.g., Slack app icon).
Value: clearer identification of bots vs humans, better recognition of related integrations across products, and a more consistent experience in channels like Slack.
Workaround
- Use a clear name/description to show the link to the Slackbot (e.g., “Slack Bot – Jira Bridge”). This helps textually but not visually.
