Issue Summary
Renaming a Jira project does not promptly and consistently update the project name in Project Picker custom fields on existing issues. The field can show either the old or new project name for up to 30–120 minutes after the rename, sometimes flipping between values on refresh.
Steps to Reproduce
- Go to Project settings of project ABC_old_project.
- Change the Project name in settings to ABC_new_project.
- Immediately (or shortly after) open an existing issue where the Project Picker custom field is set to this project.
- Refresh the issue view multiple times and/or view the same issue as different users.
Expected Results
- The Project Picker custom field should display the new project name (ABC_new_project) consistently and almost immediately for all users.
- The value in the field should not toggle between old and new names once the project rename is applied.
Actual Results
- For existing issues, the Project Picker field:
-
- Sometimes shows the old project name (ABC_old_project).
-
- Sometimes shows the new project name (ABC_new_project).
-
- On repeated refreshes, the displayed value can flip between old and new.
-
- Different users may see different values in the same timeframe.
- According to the customer, the new project name can take around 30 minutes to 2 hours to be reflected consistently in all existing issues.
- After that delay, the value eventually stabilizes to the new project name, but this behaviour is confusing and not expected.
Workaround
No reliable workaround identified.
- One of the customer reports that waiting 30–120 minutes eventually leads to the new name being visible everywhere, but there is no way to force an immediate refresh for existing issues.
