      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Open the Jira Cloud application.
      2. From the side navigation, select Projects, then choose a project.
      3. Open an issue within the project.
      4. Using a screen reader (Jaws/NVDA), navigate to and activate the Status button.
      5. Edit the status (e.g., change it from "To do" to "In Progress").
      6. Observe that after updating the status, screen reader focus moves to the top of the page.

Testing Screen Reader Focus Behavior in Web Applications πŸ”.mp4

      Actual Results

On changing the status of an issue (e.g., from "To do" to "In Progress" or "Done"), the screen reader's focus is redirected to the top of the page rather than remaining on the triggering element. Subsequent activation of the tab key repositions the focus to the triggering element.
      Β
As a result, screen reader users will have to navigate the screen content again before accessing the content which is after the triggering button.

      Expected Results

Set focus to the triggering element when the status updates, without moving to the top of the page.

      Apply the following changes β†’

      • Ensure that once the status updates, programmatic focus returns to the triggering element. This allows screen reader users to continue interacting without losing content.
      • Set the keyboard focus to the triggering element, using the JavaScript .focus() method.
