Issue Summary
Introduce a functionality in Jira Time Tracking that requires user-added time entries to be approved by another user (Project Lead, user with specific permission or role, etc.) before being logged.
Expected Workflow
- When a user logs time against a task, the entry should be marked as "Pending Approval"
- The approver should receive a notification of pending time entries and have the ability to approve or reject them
- Approved time entries should be logged officially against the task, while rejected entries should require user revision
Actual Workflow
Currently, Jira allows users to log time directly against tasks without any approval process, which can lead to potential overruns and a lack of oversight in time management
Potential Benefits
- Ensure that all logged hours are verified and aligned with project goals, reducing discrepancies and unauthorized time entries
- By requiring approval, all stakeholders have a clearer understanding of time expenditures, improving transparency and accountability within the team
- With controlled logging, project managers can better plan, predict, and manage project timelines and resources
Workaround
Currently, there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available. However, customers could explore third-party apps from our Marketplace that could potentially provide such a feature.
