Issue Summary
The focus inappropriately moves to the end of the page, skipping multiple work items in between.
Note:
This issue is reproducible with JAWS 2023 on Chrome in Windows 11. The impact of this bug is less. Therefore, we are assigning the priority as "Medium" instead of "High", based on our WCAG Level A compliance requirements.
Steps to Reproduce
- Open the Jira Cloud instance.
- Navigate to the header section, expand the “Projects” menu, and open any project.
- In the main content area, navigate to the “Project navigation” section and activate the “Active Sprints” link.
- Using the JAWS screen reader, navigate to any section such as “TO DO,” “IN PROGRESS,” or “DONE.” Ensure the selected section contains at least 10–20 work items.
- Use the Down Arrow key to navigate through the work items in the selected section.
- Observe that after a few items are read out, the virtual focus inappropriately jumps to the end of the page, causing intermediate items to be skipped and disrupting the navigation experience.
Screen Recording
Actual Results
While navigating through work items within sections such as "TO DO", "IN PROGRESS", or "DONE" using the JAWS screen reader in virtual navigation mode (with the Down Arrow key), the focus initially progresses through a few items as expected. However, at a certain point, the focus inappropriately jumps to the end of the page, skipping several intermediate items. This unexpected behavior disrupts the reading flow and prevents users from accessing all work items in the section, resulting in an inaccessible experience for JAWS users.
Expected Results
Focus should move sequentially through all interactive and meaningful content in the section when navigating with a screen reader in virtual navigation mode. Each work item should be announced in order without skipping, and users should be able to access the full list of items without unexpected focus shifts or interruptions in the reading flow.
Apply the following changes:
- Modify the scripts to prevent any dynamic focus shifting while navigating through the section using the Down Arrow key in JAWS virtual navigation mode.
- Ensure that the focus remains stable and follows a logical reading order, allowing users to access all content without unexpected jumps.
Workaround
Currently there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available
