Currently, there is a difference in how the Basic Timeline and the Plan's Timeline display the end of a sprint:
- In the Project level Timeline, the values indicated as the Start and End date for a sprint are always used to represent its start and end.
- The Plan's Timeline, will use the Start and End dates indicated on the Sprint while the sprint is ongoing. Once the sprint is completed, the Completed date will be instead instead of the end date.
There are a few reasons for this difference, some related to the accuracy of data representation, others UI/UX, from the Plan's perspective:
- When a sprint ends, the capacity will get recorded for that past sprint. If the sprint end date does not reflect the actual time it ended then it may mess up the accuracy of the capacity calculation
- The sprint cells will tend to align if the sprint ends/starts back to back (which is what normally happens). However, if the sprint end date is used, there may be gaps.
Depending on the team, it may be preferred to use one or the other in their Plan's timeline.
The request is to allow the Plan's Timeline to have flexibility so that the users can decide whether the Sprint End date or the completed date will be used to represent it on the timeline.
