Parent field to respect Edit issue screen configuration

      Issue Summary

Since "Parent" field has been implemented to replace Epic Link
In screen settings we have following options for screens: * Create

      • View
      • Edit

Field parent was removed from View screen. Generally such configuration should not allow to edit the filed, but should display it. But in this case Parent is editable.

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Have separate screens for View and Edit issue
      2. Remove Parent from Edit issue screen
      3. Go to the issue and try to edit Parent.

      Expected Results

It should be impossible to edit value of the field if the field is removed from Edit Issue screen. This will align with overall design of screen configuration in Jira and remove ability to edit Parent.

      Actual Results

      The field is still editable.

      Workaround

Currently there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available

Thanks for your patience everyone! I'm happy to share we have completed the deprecation period we were bound by that I mentioned earlier, and this fix is now generally available. To restrict the editing of the parent field, you can remove it from the relevant edit screen and it will no longer be editable, as with other fields.

            Hi all,

An update on this issue. While we have a fix for this, unfortunately as Anne mentioned earlier, the fix results in a change to the Jira cloud REST API. Due to this, we have had to publish a deprecation notice and are bound by this notice period before we can roll out changes to it. Because of the relatively minor impact of this particular change, after consulting with the developer community on the post Anne linked, we have been able to reduce this period from the standard 6 months down to 3 months.

This means we are unable to begin rolling this out until that period completes, on September 18th 2024.

            Thanks again for your patience.

            Hi 3a052eec4d4e

Sorry about that, I seemed to have added some extra characters to the link.

I've updated it but here it is as well:

            Could you try again?

            Hi,

I just wanted to provide an update for this issue.

We have a solution ready to fix this issue. Unfortunately, we have concerns that this fix will break the flow for some customers who are relying on the current behaviour and expect the parent field being editable without it being on the edit screen.

We will be rolling out the fix, but we are currently discussing how to notify existing customers of this coming change.

            Sorry for the delay.

I'll provide another update when we have more a concrete date on when we expect this change to be rolled out.

            Kind regards
            Anne Jang
