Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.
Most of my projects depend of other Epic in different project and teams. In order to to have an exact vision of dependencies, deadlines and work to accomplish, I truly need to see epics from different projects in my roadmap.
Update from Atlassian 11th February 2022
Thank you all for your valued feedback.
To set some context - The basic roadmaps feature on Jira Software Cloud is targeted at a single software team with one project per roadmap. Currently, this view only works with issues from the backlog associated with one project. https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/set-up-the-roadmap/
Cross-project planning is only possible in Advanced Roadmaps which is targeted at "teams of teams"/software organization level planning, which is included with Jira Software Premium and Enterprise subscriptions. More here on how to set up your first plan: https://youtu.be/xJ-RmFwEVjM .
Thanks again for your feedback and time spent articulating the needs of your team. We really do value it.
Regards,
Rathesh Richards, Product Manager.

[JRACLOUD-91568] As a project manager, in order to have a big picture of my projects, i need to see epic from different projects in the Roadmap
I created a potential solution in Coda (disclosure: I work there). You can sync in two ore more company-managed projects into one table in Coda, and then visualize the epics and their associated issues on one timeline. No advanced roadmap needed. The timeline layout in Coda is not as robust as the timeline in JIra, but it gets the job done. Short video showing this in action and the template I walk through in the video is here.
+ 1 please add the functionality to have single roadmap across multiple projects
my Scrum board groups tickets from two different projects, so it is impossible to use the roadmap feature... Too bad and incomprehensible
Why Advanced Roadmap is too much for this need? Anyone can explain shortly the differences between this ticket need to 'Advanced Roadmap" tool to "Jira Portfolio and "Jira Work management" projects?
A proper solution would be to remove Roadmaps and instead make Advanced Roadmaps a part of the standard functionality. That way, each Jira project would see whatever their filter is set to show, as it would be displayed in Advanced Roadmaps.
Problem solved and resources can be moved from Roadmaps to Advanced Roadmaps.
...and your Roadmap does not break if you have a filter with more data than just one Jira project.
a response to "Update from Atlassian 11th February 2022" :
Upgrading to premium/enterprise does not help for organizations of a few hundred users while only a handful of them need to have advanced roadmap capability. We all understand this is Jira's limitation and that the entire organization needs to be upgraded; hence, the responses above raise our concern with this approach.
Asking myself why the global player and master of the workflow universe doesn't take this as a matter of course.
This has the taste of having a bank account with multiple subaccounts and various credit cards in which you have to calculate the total sum by hand.
Great performance Atlassian.
There really needs to be something as simple as the basic roadmap but for multiple projects. Advance roadmaps can be too much sometimes. Epics from multiple projects on one gnatt chart.
OK Atlassian. You want us to switch to productboard or what? Hello. It's 2022.
I believe for Advanced Roadmap we would need to have Premium membership instead of Standard. Is this correct Shalimar?
Hi all,
we received an email about recent Advanced Roadmaps announcements from JIRA.
And we can see this :
ā¹ļø Advanced Roadmaps is currently only available for company-managed projects. |
Support for team-managed projects is coming soon! We haven't yet announced a date for this feature, but we'll keep you posted. |
I hope the feature will be implemented very soon...
We're in 2022, the issue had been opened in 2018...
I think customers have been patient enough...
hmm, I am a bit dissapointed Jira still does not have that. It is an absolute necessity for a PM.
I'd prefer this be baked into Jira, as the only solution I can see currently is to buy an app: Swanly, but it's expensive.
Yes please! I can't justify to my boss that we are not able to do this...
Please expedite the delivery if you can, this is a very useful feature for us.
Hi there, Thank you all for your valued feedback.
To set some context - The basic roadmaps feature on Jira Software Cloud is targeted at a single software team with one project per roadmap (i.e a timeline view of the planned pieces of work in a project). Currently, this view only works with issues from the backlog associated with one project. https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/set-up-the-roadmap/
Cross-project planning is only possible in Advanced Roadmaps which is targeted at "teams of teams"/software organization level planning such as program management, which is included with Jira Software Premium and Enterprise subscriptions. More here on how to set up your first plan: https://youtu.be/xJ-RmFwEVjM .
Advanced Roadmaps will be supporting Team Managed Projects (previously called next-gen) in the near future. The work in is progress, but we are unable to provide specific dates at this point. Youāll be able to pull a mix of projects together in a single Advanced Roadmap and use all the powerful planning, tracking, and reporting features it brings.
You can vote and follow along here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-20012
Separately, we hear, and understand your concerns about having better visibility of the epic progress (which may include issues from another project) on the basic roadmap view. We currently do not have this on our roadmap in H1, 2022, but we are constantly reviewing this based on any specific use cases provided on this ticket.
Please note, if you would like to vote for this request, instead of commenting - you can easily click "vote for this issue" at the top right of the page.
Thanks again for your feedback and time spent articulating the needs of your team. We really do value it.

Are there any plans to also make the Advanced Roadmaps feature available for team managed projects?
This is not a question about developing a new product feature but rather about the pricing model. This limitation is intentional in order to persuade you to buy advanced roadmaps (included in premium subscription). It is a bit oxymoron to limit functionality and "gather interest" while it is working as intended on the premium package.
We also need this feature, to ensure we can get an overview of all different projects.
Josh, yes I believe that this is a feature of Advanced Roadmaps only and it's available on the Jira Premium plan.
See https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/features/roadmaps?tab=advanced for a comparison between the Advanced and the Basic Roadmaps. And here are more information about the Advanced Roadmaps: https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/guides/roadmaps/advanced-roadmaps
Looks to me as if you can use multiple boards, projects, and filters as sources of an Advanced Roadmap. And work contained in an epic can be assigned across multiple teams. I would think that's what you are looking for. I've no idea if Atlassian is going to add (some) of these features to the Basic Roadmaps / Jira Cloud Standard plan.
Is there any recommendations from other users as a workaround while we wait for Atlassian to officially bring this forward as a feature? We're on Jira Cloud Standard and I have not figured out a way to bring everything together in one large view. We're struggling to see the big picture in our organization. Is this something available on the Jira Premium plan?
Dear team, we also need this to ensure we can get an overview of all different projects
we also need this view - we currently need to extract data and use other tools for this.
It would be an expected view - just as you can view multiple projects on one Kanban board.
Dear team, we also need this to ensure we can get an overview of all different projects
It would be great so you can check the big picture and the links and dependencies between different projects
This would be very useful to see an overview of all the different projects our different teams are working on, from one view.
@Rathesh Richards was just assigned to the ticket. I wonder what that means for getting it closer to a dev backlog?
Yes please. Portfolio was removed and replaced with Roadmaps, which was great, but this is a giant hole that needs to be filled.
Would be nice to have it. As of now I need to pay for the BigGantt plugin to do it.
This would be a great feature, seems enough people are wanting it
This is essential for us. Please can we have an update on when this feature will be available?
This is essential. No matter how much planning I've done to avoid this situation, we come to a point where there is a business request for this feature.
This issue was reported 3 years back and we are watching this everyday. @Jira team this issue is still unassigned and we are not getting any reply/solution from you. This is becoming very difficult now to manage the project in Jira
This is very critical to my management of my startup, otherwise I have to rely on sub-par tools such as TeamGantt, or unreliable apps on the marketplace.
We also need this feature! We want to have a kind of general overview roadmap with epics in progress in different projects.
I agree with this, I would also like to be able to see one roadmap containing epics from 2 separate projects.
I agree that this fetarue is a must. We run multiple project cross team and without having all issues and epics visible on one multiproject roadmap, we need to run from one board to another.
Furthermore, Advanced Roadmaps don't work properly with next-gen projects - Epics from next-gen projects are not recognized as epics, but instead as a story-level issue. You'll have to rollback everyone to classic projects to have a decent overview.
You are referring to the advanced roadmap feature which is only available in the premium plan. This is unfortunately not an option for us as you would have to upgrade the subscription for all users in a Jira instance.
Hi everyone.
This feature is available and I use it all the time.
On the upper bar go to "Plans"-"Create plan" and select projects that you want to see on a single roadmap. All projects have to be Company-managed type
I'm going all-in on using Jira Software for project management. Please make this a priority as it's making it difficult for me to plan over multiple projects.
We greatly need this at our organization. I have recently convinced our Production Engineering and Hardware Development teams to use Jira. All engineering teams are utilizing Jira now yet there is now way to view a combined roadmap of all projects that are related to each other. I want to be able to pull together the HW Development, SW Development and Production Engineering projects into one board and view the combined Roadmap. PLEASE implement this in the near future. It would make Jira so much more useful from the portfolio and project management perspective.
It's a highly recommended feature for the program manger.
It would help PM to monitor multiple projects roadmap at the same time in one page in Jira easily.
The Roadmap feature is great to track our current developments and plan/predict the future developments in our projects.
So I decided to renew our board for activating Roadmap feature. Then i realized it did not support multi-project views.
I hope this feature will be implemented as soon as possible.
I am quite surprise to see this was not part of the design requirement for roadmap when the feature was built from the beginning.
Please implement as soon as possible.
+1 - To eliminate manual administrative work, I need a high level view that highlights Epics from multiple projects to display to upper management & Sales on our Company & General Product direction / major releases. Showing them individual product roadmaps (that include ALL Epics/ issues) is a little "in the weeds" for the purpose I need here. Even better if I can filter to only show certain Epics from each project. (I.e. "High Priority", "Initiative", "Major Update") or other field value.
Specific User Stories:
As a project manager, my project roadmap gives low-level team members the detail they need.
As a product manager, I need an easy view to show upper management key feature releases across products so they can better understand our Company's product evolution roadmap.
As a product manager, I need a view that shows key features updates (across projects) that require training so that I can schedule my remote customer support teams accordingly.
As the director of engineering, I need to see the roadmap across projects so that I know how to best shift my resources and identify where I may experience capacity shortfalls with enough time to bring in additional resources.
This is exactly what I was hoping I'd be able to accomplish. Please implement!!
this is a must, how can a manager manage its resources if not able to view across miltiple projects?
We need this feature in order add the dependencies in different project since there are some epics which are not bound to any certain project and needs to be tracked in separate project. Is there any ETA on this? We need this on high priority please
Agreed - the roadmap feature is nice, but would be so much more useful if it could span projects.
Fully agree on this requirement, having an overview over multiple projects would be super helpful and is important for us.
As with most companies we need to plan our resources over multiple customer projects which is currently not possible as far as I can see it.
Planning on one project is nice for visibility, but only works out if a team is assigned to 1 project at a time - which is very unlikely imho.
So this feature would bring us a lot of visibility, functionality and benefit!
We would like to be able to filter items on the Roadmap by label, such as by module, product line or business owner. It would be great so our PMs can focus on the work most relevant to them at a glance.
The new Beta Roadmaps are awesome except for the fact that we have teams that have backlog items from multiple projects. We hoped to use the roadmaps to manage cross project dependencies since the UI/UX is much better than the Jira Plan current capability.
This is very important to us as we look to migrating to next-gen. The idea of using 3rd party apps for such a key feature is not ideal.
Also, having some visual indication of the Sprints within epics on the Roadmap would be helpful.
It would also be beneficial to have a corresponding Roadmap gadget for the system dashboard as well. There is of course an existing Roadmap gadget but it doesn't give the same timeline view across multiple projects we'd imagine.
As a workaround, we provide cross-epic, cross-project visibility on Gantt and Timeline views with our Jira bi directionally integrated product: https://www.visor.us/
