Support cross-project usage in Timeline (formerly simple roadmaps)

      Summary

You can use the Timeline (formerly simple roadmaps) to plan work in a board.

But, currently, the Timeline (formerly simple roadmaps) is designed to support single project only. Which means that you won't be able to have issues from different projects be displayed in the roadmap.

      Suggestion

Make it possible to use cross-project roadmaps.

      Original request

      Hi,

We are a SW Development firm where Management wants to be able to have an overview of Ongoing projects "EPICs" from multiple projects. Where would this be possible? As I currently only can have Single project when using Roadmap.

Update from Atlassian 11th February 2022

Thank you all for your valued feedback.

To set some context - The Timeline (formerly simple roadmaps) feature on Jira Software Cloud is targeted at a single software team with one project per roadmap. Currently, this view only works with issues from the backlog associated with one project. https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/set-up-the-roadmap/

Cross-project planning is only possible in Advanced Roadmaps which is targeted at "teams of teams"/software organization level planning, which is included with Jira Software Premium and Enterprise subscriptions. More here on how to set up your first plan: https://youtu.be/xJ-RmFwEVjM .

Separately, we hear, and understand your concerns about having better visibility of the epic progress (which may include issues from another project) on the basic roadmap view. We currently do not have this on our roadmap in H1, 2022, but we are constantly reviewing this based on any specific use cases provided on this ticket.

Would really need this feature to allow a team to have a single backlog while supporting tasks which may live in different projects - and still have the possibility to view their work on the timeline.

As a workaround, we support cross-project visibility in Gantt style views here: https://www.visor.us/ We're a third party platform that is bidirectionally integrated with Jira. You can import JQL style and see your projects on a timeline view.

We also support seeing the child tasks within the parent task on the free version as well.

We've moved to SAFE and this would really help us coordinate cross project efforts, and blockers

            Definitly a must have.

I understand that advance roadmap allow to have way more capabilities, being able to work in Safe, with release train, being able to coordinate all feature teams.

But sometimes, not being in Agile Safe, not really coordinating the teams, but still having dependencies, we do need to track theses kind of "Epics" which are involving multiple projets (event if 90% of the work is done on one projet, and 10% on another one).

Having Jira Premium, with Plan would be way too complex (we do not really need the Feature/Epic/Story levels) and expensive for our business. Not being able to track theses type of dependencies force us to find another way to track roadmap projects has the current project Roadmap is inaccurate at the end as we can't see if it's an Epic having dependencies without being able to see "child Story from others projects".

I really need to be able to see subtasks within Stories in the Roadmap
