Kanban Board: discrepancy of behavior when using swimlanes grouped by stories with and without the "Enhanced Jira board and backlog" active

      Issue Summary

On a Kanban board, when swimlanes are based on stories, the Epics also show as swimlanes along with the stories and tasks, however, when the "Enhance my board and backlog" option is active, the epics are not shown as swimlanes and rather go to the "Everithing else" section on the bottom of the board.

Please note that this second board behavior (Epics in "Everything Else") used to be the standard behavior for kanban boards when using swimlanes by stories, before the
"Enhanced Jira board and backlog" feature existed. The behavior changed and epics suddenly became swimlanes instead a couple of weeks before the release of the feature, and, once released, the board with the feature activated is presenting the old behavior (Epics in "Everything Else"), while the board with the feature deactivated presents this new behavior (Epics as swimlanes)

This is reproducible on Data Center: Don't know

      Steps to Reproduce

Create a kanban board, create epics and stories, and set the board swimlanes to "Stories" and then compare where are the epics with the "Enhance my board and backlog" option on and off. The option is on the board's menu dropdown.

      Expected Results

Epics on "Everything else" when swimlanes are based on stories, whether the feature is enabled or disabled. This used to be the standard behavior. In the screenshot below the feature is enabled and this old behavior is observed:

      Actual Results

When the feature is disabled, Epics are shown as swimlanes, along with stories and tasks. This is the new behavior that seems to be incorrect:

      Workaround

When the feature is disabled and epics are shown as swimlanes, it is possible to apply a quick filter to remove epics from the board completely, however, if you turn on the feature, the quick filter is no longer needed.
