Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.
Hello all,
Thank you for watching, voting, and commenting on this issue.
We use this data as well as many other inputs to feed into our prioritisation process. Being able to add labels to the cards in the Backlog view will be something that will be available in Team-managed Projects, although it is not something that we will be focusing on in the next year. We want to share this with you to ensure you can plan out your use of projects within Jira Software effectively.
In the short-term, we recommend teams use Company-Managed Projects if this is an absolute must for you. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause you.
Please continue to vote and in particular please continue to add comments on how your team would find value when having labels on the cards in the Backlog. This contextual information about what you are doing and why you are doing it is invaluable for us in providing you with a product that will grow with your needs.
Thank you,
Eoin Ryan

As an project admin, I would like to be able customized which labels are visible in the backlog view and on the card on the board, so I don't have to misuse epics
In the "old" Jira it was possible to customize cards (https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftwarecloud/customizing-cards-764478020.html). This feature is missing in the next gen projects, please add it!

[JRACLOUD-87244] Customize visibility of labels in the Backlog view of team-managed projects
This option should have been OotB. Of course users would want to sort their issues by labels.
We need this feature in team-managed boards!! We use labels heavily in our project and I need a quick and easy way to see that all backlog items have a label!
It is now possible to show something called "Feauture Flags" in Backlog Views, apparently imported from some other third-party tools . But still not Jira's very own labels? Not understandable at all.
And please, if you consider showing labels: Show them all.
Not "LabelA + 3" like in Issues.
And also: Not with that small scrollbar to scroll one pixel up and down like in Advanced Search. Bad UI.
How has this been sitting for this long? Its available in company managed projects. This would be of huge help. Would love to see this get added!
Please add it, doesn't seem like it would be difficult and would provide tremendous value for your users. Can we modify your code and make a PR request?
voting for this to be added!! Without this feature, there is a lot of repetitive data that needs to be added to see which tasks are for the clients
This has been under consideration for over a year? It seems like a basic display setting that exists in company-based projects, and literally renders Labels completely unusable for Next-gen. This should have been in from the start, please implement it asap...
if anything can be added to this: I can filter by type and see the type in the list, can filter by epic and see it in the list, can filter by label but... ouch! can't see the label! Don't even know if tasks have labels unless I open the detailed view.
I am VERY surprised to find out that this is not implemented. Seems like your sales team is doing fine selling your product without it, but us developers need this!
Is there any update on this request? The option to show labels on a team-managed project seems like a straightforward & extremely-useful feature.
Hey - is this ever going to be implemented? Not seeing labels on board or backlog view is really awkward.
Added - you'll see how many people are using / requesting Labels above. +1 from me
Pretty simple - we use Labels to highlight Customers for whom we are developing features. Having them on the Backlog view saves us having to put this information in brackets which is imperfect and leads to overly complex / long names and we need to see for whom the listed features are being developed 'at a glance' vs. using saved queries or pre-supplied filters.
Seems odd that Labels (along with type, Epic and Versions etc) are supported as quick filters but cannot be displayed on individual items. Worked well in the classic and it's a non-starter to use Team Managed right now

To use the backlog for ranking and priority we need the ability to categorize the Issues/tasks
One vote to add this capability - Displaying labels in the backlog list view helps organize issues because it's much easier to scan the issues and group them by label in a list view
+1 Displaying labels in the backlog list view helps organize issues because it's much easier to scan the issues and group them by label in a list view.
+1 we use labels to define planned items for refinement and other purpose. Being able to see the label in backlog view would be super beneficial when we do ranking of the backlog items.
It's pretty ridiculous that this isn't already a feature and that this has been a request for 4 years. My team has to manually add labels in the title of tickets so we can see them in the backlog view.
Atlassian, I think your feedback form last year shows a misunderstanding. It is not about adding labels to issues in the Backlog, it is just about seeing them.
Jesus Christ Atlassian, when will we get this absolutely essential feature? Created Nov 2018, it's now Mar 2022 and nothing yet? C'mon!
Wow. This was created Nov 2018 and it's still under consideration? That's one hell of a lot of time waiting for a feature so many people have backed.
+1. Our Dev Teams use labels to denote "READY" and "BLOCKED" items. We currently need to click on each item in the backlog and scroll to view the labels, as opposed to it just showing in the backlog view to understand this at a glance.
If there were 3 things that made me wish I picked a Jira Classic Project instead of a Jira Next Gen Project then this would be 1 of them.
@Frank Van Damme I am not sure if you've seen this issue https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-17444. 3 times more votes and still in "Gathering interests", I think Atlassian has its own roadmap, and we need to deal with it.
What kind of crap product is this!? Used Jira Server for many years on previous workplace, no problem to have a good overview in the Backlog view. Now completely useless. Utterly useless. No way to get an overview of what components (lables) an issue is related to. Impossible to do backlog grooming from this. As usual, Atlassian focus on making producs WORSE (sunset Server?)...
427 votes. How many votes are needed before it gets on the roadmap?
Labels and a filter for these labels in the backlog would be a great and simple add-on! Labels can be titled to anything what's worth for your business and give so much more control and better insight for Product Owners.
I hope that our request to Atlassian soon will get a higher priority so vote for this if you agree!
We use labels to help with the prioritization of issues so showing the labels on the backlog would really simplify and speed up our prioritization exercises
I appreciate the update, I wish there are more like this on other tickets.
Same problem here. This was super useful in older versions. It'd help A LOT if you added it to next-gen projects. Thanks!
It is really important for me to see labels on the backlog view.
We use labels to mark tickets as "ready for refinement" or "refined". This have been a huge help with older versions of jira.
Visualizing labels is something really important for me. Labels can have colors to make them be inclusive better. 🔥 🔥
The Epic panel was re-added to next-gen projects, now bring on the labels! Really inconvenient having to write a separate filter to see the labels.
We use labels to indicate whether a story is ready for refinement, ready for sprint and so on, which helps us prioritize the backlog.
Me too, I'd like to see labels on items in backlog view. E.g. Whole team need to see at a glance, in the backlog, which items are client-related / came from support desk. We are misusing epics for this, which doesn't work very well and not how we normally use epics. Colour coding on the labels would be great.
we need an ability to display labels in Jira backlog. and similar to this issue - an ability to show QA contact in a card on a board
To Clarify this probably for everyone. The backlogs need to show descriptions, epics, versions, labels (Priority or general message), Bug severity. The later is the issues. This is why:
Bug severity: This is something every backlog needs, which is possible currently but is not set up automatically. You have to change the priority field and customise it. The issue is you can no longer have a clear priority without using the labels, which don't show in the backlog. This is a big issue for Scrum teams managing backlogs.
Labels: I need them to show on the board (which they do but I'd like a coloured background as well) and in the backlog.
I'm on cloud Nex-gen.
There really isn't a lot of work involved in doing this and it will make a big difference.
Please amend support for this! Not having this feature in place forces us to misuse the epics tremendously. We desperately need a way of categorising our tickets in our backlog so that they can easily be overviewed.
