Atlassian status as of September 2022

      Hello all,

Thank you for watching, voting, and commenting on this issue.

We use this data as well as many other inputs to feed into our prioritisation process. Being able to add labels to the cards in the Backlog view will be something that will be available in Team-managed Projects, although it is not something that we will be focusing on in the next year. We want to share this with you to ensure you can plan out your use of projects within Jira Software effectively.

In the short-term, we recommend teams use Company-Managed Projects if this is an absolute must for you. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause you.

Please continue to vote and in particular please continue to add comments on how your team would find value when having labels on the cards in the Backlog. This contextual information about what you are doing and why you are doing it is invaluable for us in providing you with a product that will grow with your needs.

      Thank you,
      Eoin Ryan
      Product Manager

As an project admin, I would like to be able customized which labels are visible in the backlog view and on the card on the board, so I don't have to misuse epics

In the "old" Jira it was possible to customize cards (https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftwarecloud/customizing-cards-764478020.html). This feature is missing in the next gen projects, please add it!

It's pretty ridiculous that this isn't already a feature and that this has been a request for 4 years. My team has to manually add labels in the title of tickets so we can see them in the backlog view.

Atlassian, I think your feedback form last year shows a misunderstanding. It is not about adding labels to issues in the Backlog, it is just about seeing them.

Jesus Christ Atlassian, when will we get this absolutely essential feature? Created Nov 2018, it's now Mar 2022 and nothing yet? C'mon!

+1. Our Dev Teams use labels to denote "READY" and "BLOCKED" items. We currently need to click on each item in the backlog and scroll to view the labels, as opposed to it just showing in the backlog view to understand this at a glance.

@Frank Van Damme I am not sure if you've seen this issue https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-17444. 3 times more votes and still in "Gathering interests", I think Atlassian has its own roadmap, and we need to deal with it.

What kind of crap product is this!? Used Jira Server for many years on previous workplace, no problem to have a good overview in the Backlog view. Now completely useless. Utterly useless. No way to get an overview of what components (lables) an issue is related to. Impossible to do backlog grooming from this. As usual, Atlassian focus on making producs WORSE (sunset Server?)...

Labels and a filter for these labels in the backlog would be a great and simple add-on! Labels can be titled to anything what's worth for your business and give so much more control and better insight for Product Owners.
I hope that our request to Atlassian soon will get a higher priority so vote for this if you agree!

It is really important for me to see labels on the backlog view.

We use labels to mark tickets as "ready for refinement" or "refined". This have been a huge help with older versions of jira.

Visualizing labels is something really important for me. Labels can have colors to make them be inclusive better. 🔥 🔥

The Epic panel was re-added to next-gen projects, now bring on the labels! Really inconvenient having to write a separate filter to see the labels.

We use labels to indicate whether a story is ready for refinement, ready for sprint and so on, which helps us prioritize the backlog.

Me too, I'd like to see labels on items in backlog view. E.g. Whole team need to see at a glance, in the backlog, which items are client-related / came from support desk. We are misusing epics for this, which doesn't work very well and not how we normally use epics. Colour coding on the labels would be great.

we need an ability to display labels in Jira backlog. and similar to this issue - an ability  to show QA contact in a card on a board

To Clarify this probably for everyone. The backlogs need to show descriptions, epics, versions, labels (Priority or general message), Bug severity. The later is the issues. This is why:

Bug severity: This is something every backlog needs, which is possible currently but is not set up automatically. You have to change the priority field and customise it. The issue is you can no longer have a clear priority without using the labels, which don't show in the backlog. This is a big issue for Scrum teams managing backlogs.

Labels: I need them to show on the board (which they do but I'd like a coloured background as well) and in the backlog.

            I'm on cloud Nex-gen.

There really isn't a lot of work involved in doing this and it will make a big difference.

Project specific labels would be really good too (instead of global ones). We have several teams that use Jira in different ways and a single shared label pot is a nightmare.
