      Hi everyone,

I'm pleased to share that we've rolled out updates to the Jira board and backlog view settings in both company and team-managed projects that will expand the set of available fields that can be turned on and off in team-managed projects.

In addition to status, epics and linked issues, you can now customize the visibility of the issue type, issue key, and priority and assignee fields.

You can read more about the improvements here: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/customize-your-view-of-the-board-and-backlog/

While we recognize that this does not equal the level of customization available in company-managed projects, we felt that this step forward in customization options was important to share. Unfortunately, full parity of backlog and board card customization between company-managed projects and team-managed projects is not on our roadmap at this time.

      We appreciate your feedback.

      Kind regards,

      Dave Meyer

      Atlassian update - August 2024

      Problem Definition

As a project admin, I want to be able to customise the fields shown on the card in the backlog and on the board for next-gen projects.

As of today, it is only possible to show the due date, the priority field, and the estimation field when they are configured on an issue type.

If you are looking for the ticket related to card colour support, you can watch and vote on this ticket.

      Update: 18/09/2024

At the moment, Team-managed projects do not allow users to choose fields to display in the issue cards like the company-managed project card layout.

However, we can enable certain pre-defined fields from the View settings to display in the issue cards of Team-managed projects.

Below are the fields currently supported.

      • Issue type
      • Issue key
      • Epic
      • Labels
      • Estimate
      • Linked issues
      • Assignee

      Workaround:

If the main use-case is to get the fields on the board/backlog cards, we can create a board in a placeholder Company-managed project(CMP) or a personal location. If there are multiple Team-Managed projects(TMPs), then the placeholder CMP can be used to host multiple boards based on other TMPs as well.

What's still missing is the the ability to show the "fix version" on a board card when working with team projects. It's hard to manage multiple versions on a Kanban board when you can't see the issue's fix version. As a workaround, we're forced to duplicate the fix version value into the label field, which is really not ideal.

3e62e8dfd890 I'm happy that progress is being made. However I need to note that the work-around you post is quite limited because when you create the board in a company-managed or personal location and attempt to customize the visible fields on the tickets, you find that only company-managed fields are available there. You cannot select any of the custom fields you create in your own project to show. Since custom fields are often one of the points of having a team-managed project, this is unfortunate.

If there would be any way to lift this limitation it would make the work-around far more useful. Thank you.

dmeyer  I totally agree with the feedback given by 84114d83d34a  and 6498d6f6aee4

Team Managed projects should also have the ability to show the priority in cards on the board.

Hello dmeyer, thank you for the update. However, I totally agree with 84114d83d34a have status on the cards of team management projects is a deal breakers top use multiple status in the same column it would help a lot the team to stop using the list view and use more the board. Do we have a date when these features will be available on team management? thank you!

This^ info is way too hidden! The documentation you linked to does not reflect this either.

Also, why not support status? Lack of support for adding status on a card is a deal breaker for me using teams. I love the simplicity of teams otherwise, but I use multiple statuses in columns so I really need swimlanes or status on the card (preferably the later).

Hello dmeyer, thanks for the post, even though as you say it is only a small step. Just a point of information, the links you post go to the documentation section on admin for Company Managed, not Team Managed projects.

I cannot load the roadmap page at the moment so am not able to see what is getting priortized ahead of this, but I'm suspecting the main reason this comes lower is the implementation would require some kind of deep refactoring that isn't practical with the current architecture. As such, I wonder if it would be possible to focus on better support for workarounds such as [this one|https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Multiple-boards-in-Business-and-Team-Managed-Projects-You-bet/ba-p/1719761].

Here in effect you create a board view from another project (which can be Company-Managed) onto the Team Managed one which can then be customized. There are a couple of shortcomings noted there though, with one additional one being that any custom fields created in the Team-Managed project are not available in the selector to put on the cards. It might be more feasible to focus on addressing these hindrances, than directly supporting customizable boards in team managed projects. For example perhaps the dropdown could be populated by all company fields plus those present in the project used to populate the board. Or all fields visible to the user in any project they have access to.
