Currently, users face challenges in organizing teams by department or group within Jira and Atlassian Teams. The existing workaround of using naming conventions for teams (e.g., prefixes or suffixes) is cumbersome and leads to cluttered displays across various Atlassian products. Additionally, the "Department" field in user profiles is not directly linked to team management, and advanced features through Atlassian Access require significant additional investment.

We propose the following enhancements to improve team management:

      • Customizable Team Metadata: Allow administrators to define and manage metadata fields for teams, such as department, group, or region. This should include the ability to create dropdown lists for consistent data entry.
      • Improved Team Categorization: Enable hierarchical categorization of teams, allowing them to be grouped by department or other logical structures within the Atlassian ecosystem.
      • Integration with User Directory Attributes: Provide seamless integration with user directory attributes like "Department" without needing additional subscriptions or complex setups.
      • Enhanced User Interface: Optimize the display of team names and metadata across Jira issues, plans, and Atlassian Teams, ensuring clarity and ease of navigation.
      • Reporting and Filtering: Facilitate reporting and filtering capabilities based on team metadata, enabling users to quickly identify and work with specific groups or departments.
