Accessibility Improvement - Inaccessibility of Date Information in Jira Issue comments

    XMLWordPrintable

Details

    Description

      Issue Summary

The current interface of Jira issues comments sometimes displays dates to more general terms like "last week." Although the precise date and time can be viewed by hovering over these date indications or clicking on them, this feature poses a challenge for accessibility. Users who rely on keyboard navigation or screen readers are unable to access date information due to the requirement to hover, and the mechanism to change the default date display is not compatible with these tools.

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Open a Jira issue ticket.
      2. Go to the comments sections where a comment is added.
      3. Try to view the precise date and time of comments using keyboard navigation or screen reader tools.
      4. Try to change the default date display setting using the same tools.

      Expected Results

Users should be able to view the exact date and time of comments and change the default date display setting using keyboard navigation or screen readers.

      Actual Results

Users relying on keyboard navigation or screen readers are unable to view the exact date and time of comments. Additionally, they can't change the default date display setting as the function is not compatible with these tools.

      Workaround

Currently, there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available
