      Issue Summary

Deleting a project role will cause comments with visibility restricted to that role to be inaccessible

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. Create a project role at Jira settings > System > Project roles.
      2. Go to any comment Add a comment to an issue, and set the visibility to the new role create din the previous step
      3. Go to the Project roles again and delete the role created in step 1.

      Expected Results

      • The user is prevented from deleting the role if it is used for comment visibility (among other things)
        OR
      • An option is offered to update the visibility restriction to either remove it or pass it to another role before allowing the deletion.

      Actual Results

The deletion is made and all the comments with that project role set as a visibility restriction are lost from the issue view, without any way to identify, view or recover them through Jira features.

      Workaround

Contacting Atlassian Support to fix the data inconsistency left (orphaned role ID in the visibility setting of the comments).
