      Atlassian Update - Aug 13, 2024

The ability to sync Atlassian Teams from an identity provider is currently in progress. Once this feature is available, admins will be able to create Atlassian Teams that have their membership managed only through groups synced from your identity provider directory via SCIM.

We will update our Cloud roadmap when we have more information on the timeline for this feature.

      Atlassian Update - November 2024

      Hi everyone,

My name is April and I'm a product manager at Atlassian 👋

We’re excited to announce the launch of SCIM-synced Atlassian Teams. We’re inviting you to join our Early Access Program (EAP) where you'll be among the first to use and provide feedback on it.

Why join this Early Access Program

Participating will give you the opportunity to influence the development of Atlassian Teams. By joining, you’ll gain the ability to:

      • Connect Atlassian Teams to Groups SCIM-synced to an external directory such as ActiveDirectory
      • Connect Atlassian Teams to local groups (later down the track)
      • Provide feedback on Admin-Managed Teams

      About the Early Access Program

We're looking for a select group of organizations who are enthusiastic about shaping our product's direction. You are:

      • Using at least 1 Premium or Enterprise edition of Jira Cloud, Confluence Cloud, or Compass (not Server/DC)
      • Enthusiastic about shaping Atlassian Team’s direction by regularly participating in the Community Group and providing feedback

      How to join

      1. Fill out this form with your details (~2 minutes)

      2. We’ll reach out with a confirmation email with further instructions if you qualify.

Important note: Filling in the form doesn’t guarantee participation in the EAP.

Look forward to hearing from you. Let me know if you have any questions by commenting on this thread.

Customers need a way to sync teams with Active Directory/Azure Active Directory, Google, Okta.

Having another isolated team directory within Atlassian products is a nightmare for stale data and maintenance load.

While we wait for this one, ScriptRunner has a workaround that might help. You can combine the functionality of Jira Groups with the Team field while keeping members in sync. We’ve written up a tutorial with example scripts here.

Glad to see that this is going to be taken forward and scheduled on the roadmap.

Is there any guidance in the meantime? I anticipate that this is going to take some time to get to GA and currently customers are still going to be trying to utilize the Team features while it is disconnected from permissions (including assignable user) / workflow / global permissions / confluence space permissions / etc.

Should this ticket be linked with the below ticket?

I understand not being able to create Teams based on an IDP/SCIM, but it baffles me that you can't create a Team based on Atlassian group membership. We could likely replace our current paging solution with JSM if there existed a more automated way of creating and managing these groups.

This is so, so important for us.

Love the look of the Team features across the platform, but (a) they absolutely need to be centrally managed and (b) they absolutely need to be sync'able with an organization's idP/HRIS (* we use Google presently as idP)

We have a somewhat manageable solution presently in Jira Software using groups and API automation from our HRIS, the principle drawback being that while functional for things like access control and board setup, groups are not easily visible to users. We can't even really look at Atlas until this is in product.
