Bulk replace groups in project permissions

When a large number of new groups are created and the old ones are deleted because of org changes, there is a need to replace the old groups with new groups in all project permission.
Currently, users need to do it manually or using API.
It would be great if there is a mechanism to replace the old groups with the new ones.
