As a Jira Cloud administrator, customers would like to configure notifications directly to users or groups rather than only to channels.

Currently it is possible for Jira admins to be granular about what type of notifications are sent to channels. Users can set personalized notifications by accessing the Jira app within a Slack workspace.

Once you've added the Jira Cloud app to your Slack workspace, you can start receiving your personal Jira notifications in Slack.

• In Slack, open a DM with @Jira, any public channel, or a private channel that @Jira has been invited to.
• Enter /jira notify.
• Select Turn on personal notifications.
• Choose when you want to be notified and select Submit.

Once you’ve set up personal notifications in Slack, you can disable email notifications by going to Jira in Personal settings > Email notifications for issue activity.

Further to this, using the /Jira connect command from within the Slack app, creates an entry within the Slack integration page within project settings.
This is a user-initiated flow and provides the ability then for Jira admins to edit and tweak the notifications only once the end-user has setup the connection.

Expectation:

The expectation is that the application should make provision to centralize what notifications are received by users/groups, not just channels. At the moment, onus is placed on the end-user to follow the above mentioned process in terms of receiving notifications only meant for that individual.

Admins would like the ability to control this for users to ensure that notifications aren't missed. Sending these notifications to channels are not good enough, they should be sent directly to the end-user from the perspective of a configuration completed by administrators.
