Issue Summary
In Jira Cloud, when you are viewing a project page that has a left side navigation menu that can be collapsed with a hotkey of ] and expanded with the hotkey of [, it is possible to get this collapsed panel to expand without using any hotkey and without clicking the Expand > button.
In situations where this can be expanded with just a cursor hover action, that menu can open very rapidly. The problem comes in trying to then move the cursor as this hover opened menu will automatically collapse again quickly.
Steps to Reproduce
- On any Jira page that has a left panel project menu, first collapse that panel either by clicking the < icon or pressing the ] hotkey
- Without clicking anything, or pressing any hotkeys, hover the mouse cursor back and forth between the left edge of the screen and collapsed < button (you might have to move this back and forth a few times to get it to happen)
- When this panel automatically expands from hovering, moving the mouse cursor to the right beyond the edge of this panel causes that panel to snap back to being collapsed.
Expected Results
Hovering over the expand should either not cause this panel to automatically expand, or if it does, that panel should remain expanded until the user chooses to collapse it again.
Actual Results
- See https://twitter.com/uur_oruc/status/1546773362793480193
- The panel can be expanded with just a hover, but this leads to a frustrating experience as the end user might not have time needed to view the screen before it is automatically collapsed again if they move their cursor to the right a sufficient distance.
- It's not clear to the end user that they need to click a button or press a key to properly expand this panel. Since the hover appears to expand this (but not change to stay expanded), this causes a frustrating UI experience for end users that expect it to remain open.
Workaround
- Explicitly expand the menu either by clicking the > or by using the hotkey [ instead of allowing the hover to temporarily expand this menu.
