Actually, the sprint field only supports the operators = , !=
IS , IS NOT, IN , NOT IN
as per Advanced search reference - JQL fields.

This suggestion asks that the ability to use the WAS, WAS IN, WAS NOT, WAS NOT IN , CHANGED operators be added for the sprint field.
