This is becoming a problem for our company as we try to switch from the old view to the new (since old is being removed).
The new smart links make Jira entries unreadable, or distracts the reader from the true intent of the text.
What use to be a couple of characters for <ID><STATUS> is now a whole sentence due to the new format of <ID><SUMMARY>+<STATUS>.
When we reference another JIRA we don't need the name at the time of reading. It should be like any other hyperlink, click it to get the additional details. The link is there when you need it but it doesn't overpower or take over the issue.
For example, this is easy to read with the old style shorter smart-links.
Once changes for FOO-230 ToDo is completed we can remove the workaround added by FOO-123 DONE.
But using new smart link makes it more difficult to read, and distracts attention from the issue at hand.
Once changes for FOO-230 Upgrade to CMake 3.22 ToDo is completed we can remove the workaround added by FOO-123 CMake error - unknown command conan_basic_setup DONE.
I understand that someone thought this was a good idea, and others like the feature, but it breaks the functionality for those of us that rely on the old smart link display.
I think the best way for this would be to have this as a personal setting. Let me, the user, decide how my issue will view. Give me the option to say all smart links in MY displays will show as one of the following:
- <ID>
- <ID>+<STATUS>
- <ID> + <SUMMARY> + <STATUS>
- <ID> + <SUMMARY>
I would recommend this as a user based option instead of project or admin because I'm sure there are some users in my group that want it in the extended format, while me as the admin would set it to the legacy format.
P.S. This should be considered a regression bug. Not an enhancement/suggestion. It used to work fine, but you changed it and now it is working less than optimally.
