Using StatusCategory is a less brittle approach to many Status-based configuration scenarios. This would allow future workflow Status additions to operate properly without having to revisit prior configurations.

That enhancement would help admins to create configurations that are less subject to breaking as new Status values are added to an instance

Example: When adding conditions that involves statuses could be difficult to identify which statuses need to be used if there are too many of them, using status category could be selected to use all the done/green statuses in a single click.
